Ease Low Back Soreness

Fit Body:

Standing Low Back Stretch

Ease low back soreness that comes from sitting for too long. Take a break, stand up and do this low back stretch. Bend forward placing your hands on your knees. Keep your weight centered. Tuck your chin into your chest, inhale and round your back. Next, exhale, lift your head and arch your back. Perform 3-5 repetitions moving at your regular breathing rate.

Seated End-of-Day Stretch

Low Back and Leg Stretch

Begin seated on the floor, with both legs straight out in front of you. Gently tuck your chin to your chest and bend forward, reaching straight out with both hands. Hold for one or two deep breaths, then slowly return to your upright posture.

End-of-Day Total Body Stretch

Total Body Stretch

Stretch your body into relaxation at the end of the day. Here’s how:

Begin seated with both legs out straight in front of you. Cross your right ankle over your left. Gently walk your hands forward bending your chest toward your knees. Hold for 10-20 seconds or 2 deep breaths, then release. Next, cross your left ankle over your right. Walk your hands forward, and hold for 10-20 seconds or 2 deep breaths, and then release.

Ease Tension with this Back Stretch

Ease muscle tension with this Back Stretch!

Leave muscle tension at the office with this total back stretch. Begin on your hands and knees on the floor. Inhale, tuck your chin into your chest and round your back. Exhale, lift your chin and arch your back. Repeat 3-5 times.

Stand and Stretch

Stand and Stretch!

Don’t have time to sit or stretch on the floor? You don’t need too! Do this standing stretch to ease sore legs and back tension. Stand on your right leg only. Keeping your torso straight, lift your left leg up. Using one or both arms hug your knee in toward your chest. Hold for 10-30 seconds, then release. Repeat standing on your left leg only.

Build a Strong Back

Strengthen your Back.

Build a strong back by performing this exercise. Begin on the floor on your hands and knees. Keeping your spine aligned and belly button pulled up, lift your right hand and your left knee up off the floor. Return to the floor, and immediately lift your left hand and your right knee up off of the floor. Repeat alternating movement until 10 reps are complete. To progress, lift your right hand and extend your arm forward parallel to the floor. At the same time, lift your left knee up off of the floor and extend your leg until it is parallel to the floor. Hold for a count of 5, then release. Repeat the same movement with your left hand and right knee.

Side Bend Stretch.

Release muscle tension in your back and shoulders by doing this stretch daily. Stand up. Reach both arms straight up overhead. Lean to your right and hold for 10-20 seconds, release. Lean to your left and hold for 10-20 seconds, then release.
